Full Time Teaching Artist (30hrs/wk)

Summary: CircEsteem unites youth across all backgrounds and identities by fostering self-esteem and mutual respect through the practice and performance of the circus arts.  Specifically, CircEsteem promotes the development of self-esteem, personal success and empowerment by (i) promoting the practice of circus arts; (ii) uniting youth from diverse backgrounds; (iii) providing skills training; and (iv) providing children from low-income and economically challenged backgrounds with the financial safety net they will need as they seek higher education.  

Duties Include:

  • Develop weekly lesson plans with Program Coordinator
  • Teach students in various circus disciplines
  • Implement the lesson plans dictated by CircEsteem’s curriculum 
  • Attend any planning meetings necessary for program success as dictated by the Program Coordinator or Program Manager or Teaching Artist Manager 
  • Ensure successful program implementation - communicate with the Teaching Artist  team about plans for the day, run the daily schedule, etc.
  • Train and onboard new Teaching Artists in collaboration with the Teaching Artist Manager
  • Attend staff meetings as assigned by the Program Manager and/or Program Directorsome text
    • Core Meeting weekly and Program Meeting twice a month
  • Teach during daytime workshops offered throughout the year
  • Work a required minimum of birthday parties and gigs 
  • Attend required professional development 
  • Provide hands-on support to assigned major CE events 

Teaching Artist Experience:

  • Strong behavior management techniques
  • Flexible with constantly changing situations
  • Team player and collaborator
  • Independent, critical thinker who has the ability to problem-solve
  • Ability to positively and respectfully communicate with co-workers, administration, parents, and youth
  • Fluent writing and speaking Spanish preferred
  • 5 years or more of  teaching/youth development experience
  • Advanced skill in manipulation, balance, tumbling, aerials, or wheel
  • Experience training adults
  • Strong behavior management techniques
  • Flexible and adaptive to change within work circumstances and situations
  • Team player and collaborator
  • Independent, critical thinker who has the ability to problem-solve
  • Ability to positively and respectfully communicate with co-workers, administration, parents, and youth
  • Fluent writing and speaking Spanish preferred

Compensation:

  • $36,400/year
  • 15 days of PTO collected quarterly 
  • Benefits - $273/mo towards a health insurance plan or a 403B retirement account.  This is in addition to your salary

*Employees will be assigned a 30 hrs/week work schedule in accordance with programming needs.  Days may vary and may change throughout the year.
