CircEsteem promotes the development of self-esteem, personal success, and empowerment by (i)
promoting the practice of circus arts; (ii) uniting youth from diverse backgrounds; (iii) providing
skills training; and (iv) providing children from low-income and economically challenged
backgrounds with the financial safety net they will need as they seek higher education.
Summary of Project:
The youth and production team will begin building the show in January and perform six times in the theater
of CircEsteem's brand new, purpose-built Social Circus facility on May 9, 10, 16, and 17!
Light Designer/ Technician
- The designer communicates directly with the technical and operations team to arrange any technical
needs in the space outside of rehearsal time.
- Collaborate with CircEsteem’s directorial team and youth performers to understand the vision
and contribute creative ideas to enhance the narrative and themes of the production,
prioritizing youth voice.
- Develop and implement a fully realized lighting design from the venue’s rep plot.
- Coordinate with sound and projections to ensure a harmonious integration of all design
elements.
- The design will support approximately 12 circus acts, some with aerials & rigging in a
150-180-seat semi-thrust stage.
- Create and submit any necessary paperwork.
- Work with the theater’s technical director/manager to execute, hang, and focus lights in a
timely manner.
- Program and operate lighting cues during the production's technical rehearsals
- Attend any necessary production meetings and rehearsals to ensure the alignment of
technical elements with the overall devised production.
- Strike show plot back to its setting
